      Clarence, also deserves a special mention. He died in action, in France, in WW1, age 26, and was buried in Senlis Military Cemetery. Scarborough Maritime Heritage has a short online biography of Clarence Park (and his father, James) in the article, “Summer 1918 – the Aisne and Marne (from ‘Neath a Foreign Sky’ by Paul Allen. The article notes that Clarence served in the 2nd Loyal North Lancashires and received dreadful wounds when fighting on the Marne. He was moved to a Casualty Clearing Station near Senlis and died of his wounds, 30th July 1918. He left behind his grieving mother, Elizabeth.

      Clarence Edgar Park, to give him his full name, is also commemorated in Dean Road Cemetery. I have seen the memorial stone, a striking and poignant memorial in the shape of a craggy rock into which is set an anchor. The stone commemorates James D Park, as mentioned before, Clarence, and Elizabeth Park, who died 21st Dec 1936. According to the online article, James & Elizabeth’s daughter, Lillian, was also buried in the same plot, 4th January, 1965, aged 83.
