Notes |
- From Ancestry Public Members tree the Wright Family owner KimStewart1979. records following for this family ( and it is repeated without sources on other trees.
Ref : Victoria, Australia, Assisted and Unassisted Passenger Lists, 1839-1923 VPRS 14; Series Title: Register of Assisted Immigrants from the United Kindom (refer to microform copy),
6 Feb 1842 arrival atPort Philip Bay, Australia aboard 'Thetis' from Cork, Ireland.
BUT original record shows John B House age 23 Carpenter born Wicklow
Catherine House age 25 Housekeeper born Surrey
Thomas House age 4 1/2 yrs born Surrey
Frederick House age 9 mths born Surrey
Is this Thomas Berridge Howes and family? The transcript on Ancestry would suggest that it is and other records show they certainly seem to have arrived in Australia .Names and ages of wife and children match but birthplaces do not, Catherine is said to have been born in Bray, Wicklow Ireland and the sons in Dublin and Cork, not Surrey as in the original record, a third child William Henry is supposed to have died at sea.No other record of the family travelling to Australia has been found.
Comment from Mark Higlitch, rootsweb.com
"The family migrated from Cork to Melbourne in 1842 on the "Thetis" with Catherine's sister Alicia and three young sons. One died at sea from scalding and another died soon after they arrived in Melbourne.
In the 1850s, he and Catherine established a farm on the site of the current Tullamarine airport."
