    • "A Stray Horse.— Herbert House, of Holwell, was charged with allowing a horse to stray at Holwell on the 11th Oct.—P.C. R. Churchill found the horse on the highway, took it to defendant's house, and informed House's mother that he would be prosecuted as he had been repeatedly cautioned.—Fined 2s 6d and 6s 6d costs.

    • "While a carter named Herbert House in the employ of a Holwell farmer, was returning from Sherborne on Thursday with a waggon load of coal, the horses ran away, knocking him down and smashing his arm and leg. The injured limbs were amputated at the Yeatman Hospital, Sherborne, but the poor fellow died the next day. At the inquest a verdict of "Accidental Death" was returned.

    • The following posts were seen in a Facebook group by one of our correspondents. We have been unable to verify the source.
      "Grandfather was fined for "furious driving" in 1885. Appeared before the magistrate at Sherborne petty sessions. 'Herbert Hammond House was summoned for furious driving. Fined 2s. 6d, and 6s. 6d costs. " Source: Southern Times and Dorset County Herald - Friday 06 November 1885

      "Grandfather's death notice was in a local paper. 'HOUSE. —May 20, at the Yeatman Hospitall, Sherborne, as 4 Jun a result of an accident. Herbert House, of Holwell, aged 48.' Source: Western Chronicle 1904."
