The Gloucester Journal published inquests from the early 19th century. Here is a tricky entry for April 21, 1806:
On Monday as -----HOWSE, Esq. of Cirencester, formerly Surgeon in the Army, was conversing with a person in the market, at that place, he dropped down, and instantly expired! He has left a wife and twelve children.
An Army surgeon ought to be easy to track down, but I can't see him in our database. Neither can I find an appropriate Howes/Howse person dying in Cirencester in 1806. Can you track him down?
Unknown Howse of Cirencester - died 1806
Re: Unknown Howse of Cirencester - died 1806
And here is a poignant postscript from Jun 20, 1808:
Jun 20. A shocking accident happened at Cirencester, on Monday; as a fine child of Mr HOWES’ , surgeon, was standing, with a servant maid, near the Butter market, a waggon passed along, which she could not avoid, owing to a heap of stones lying in the way; when the wheel went over the head of the child, and killed her on the spot! The servant was severely hurt.
