Christopher Pipes's book "A Dictionary of Cromer History" reports that in the early 20th century poor widows of Cromer not already in receipt of parish relief received the income from 14 acres of land in Northrepps, and 19th century charities set up under the wills of John Howes of Norwich (1863) and George Webb Collison (1893) provided for coals and clothing to be distributed to the aged poor each Christmas.
Who was this John Howes of Norwich and what was his connection to Cromer?
