- We agree with the theory of Eleanor Hart that it is likely that the third baptism was as a result of the uncertain status caused by the previous baptisms and the probability that confirmation in the Established Church was pending. James mother was a Roman Catholic and had been dead for 10 years.

SUDDEN DEATH AT THE PAUPER LUNATIC ASYLUM
On Tuesday last, an inquest was held before J P Wood, esq, at the North and East-Ridings pauper lunatic asylum, near this city, on view of the body of James Howes, who was fifty-nine years of age. The deceased was a hawker residing at Richmond, and during the last six or seven years he has been rather affected in his mind. He has, however, been so much worse since Good Friday that it was necessary ultimately that care should be taken of him. Having remained in the Richmond workhouse for a week, he was brought to the above asylum yesterday (Friday) afternoon week, when it was observed that he had some bruises on his person, and the fingers of both hands appeared to have been burnt. These injuries were self-inflicted, and on Saturday he was a good deal excited. In the afternoon of that day he became ill, soon after which he died. Mr Hingston, the assistant surgeon at the asylum, being of the opinion that death had been produced by exhaustion consequent upon excitement, the bruises not having anything to do with Howes' decease. A verdict was returned in accordance with the sutrgeon's opinion. [11]
- Yes, he appears to have been baptized three times.
